With thousands of web designers available, how do you choose the right one?
It’s not as difficult as it may seem if taken on a point by point basis. Here are some things to consider when choosing a web designer:
|
· Navigation and usability. Don’t judge a site in a portfolio by its home page.
Navigate through the site to verify that the sites are laid out well and easy to use.
· Quick loading sites. On average, web surfers wait eight seconds for a site
to load. If there is no imagery or text viewable in the browser within that time
frame, many viewers will move on to other sites. Your web designer’s
portfolio should include sites that load quickly and can be easily navigated.
· Capability. When browsing a designer’s portfolio look for elements you
would like utilized on your site and how they are implemented.
· Understanding your business. It is important that the designer have
some knowledge of your business. If a web designer specializes in creating
flashy sites for rock bands they may not be the best choice to create a site for
your veterinarian clinic.
· Price. This point speaks for itself. Why pay more than you have to?
· Personal taste. If you find none of the sites in a designer’s portfolio visually
appealing then move on. Chances are you have different tastes and the process
towards a final product will be a struggle for you both. It’s true that a website has a
lot to do with what the client wants but the touch of the designer can always be seen.
